Kaffebox – December 17 Box Preview

This is the first post about KaffeBox, just like The Coffeevine, this is a subscription service. The difference is that KaffeBox only sends away coffee from Scandinavian coffee roasters, except for one month a year. The exception also happens to be this month. This year’s “Wild Card” is from the German coffee roastery The Barn. It is important to note that the non-Scandinavian coffee roasters that are included as Wild Cards should have the same light roast profile as we do have in Scandinavia.

As usual, I start with an information text about the coffee:

The Barn, Berlin, Germany.

1) Nguguini AB
Personal cupping and recipe will be published

Origin: Kenya
Variety:  Arabica SL 28 SL 34
Farm: Kibirigwi FCS
Region: Kirinyaga
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1635 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Blueberry, bergamot & rich.

Expectation: This sounds like an amazing coffee, I find that the flavors mentioned at the coffee roasters cupping reminds me of an old favorite of mine. Hopefully, they are very close in taste, this feels like a winner for me already!

2) El Mirador
Personal cupping and recipe will be published

Origin: Guatemala
Variety: Caturra, Catuai & Bourbon.
Farm: José Lopez
Region: Huehuetenango
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1550-1720 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Pear, stone fruit & smooth.

Expectation: This is the second coffee from Guatemala. Last time there was a very nice and soft feeling of tea.  It’s from the same region and has some exciting notes from the cupping.

Review: First of all, I have to emphasize how well KaffeBox packs their product, you are welcomed by a precious forest animal and a little information leaflet describing every coffee bag. It’s the same information that I always provide.

It will be really funny to try KaffeBox for the first time, the first thought that struck me was that it’s a bit sad not starting with a Scandinavian coffee. But then I realized that it must a special coffee that got picked to be this year’s Wild Card, in other words, it cannot be a better month to start!
