The Coffeevine January 18 Box Preview

Now it’s finally time to write about the Coffeevine’s January 18 box, in this post I will write a few short posts about each coffee, where the coffee roaster is from, where the coffee comes from and my expectations about the coffee itself.

1) Nero Scuro, Italy.

Origin: Guatemala
Variety:  Caturra, Bourbon
Farm: José Bernabé Martínez
Region: Huehuetenango
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 650 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Peach, raspberry, bergamot, cherry & floral.

Expectation: I’m happy to see an Italian coffee is included in this month’s coffeevine. It is very unusual to bring home an Italian specialty coffee, as it is more common for them to stick to traditional dark roast coffee, a blend of robusta/arabica. So of course, this will be incredibly interesting to see how specialty coffee from Italy is treated. Good job bringing it up Nero Scuro!!

2) The Underdog, Greece.

Origin: Ethiopia
Variety: Heirloom
Farm: Yria
Region: Yirgacheffe
Process: Washed
Altitude: 2 050  meters above sea level.

Cupping notes::
Jasmine, ripe strawberry & tropic fruits.

Expectation: I have never bought a specialty coffee from a Greek coffee roaster, it will, of course, be really interesting with coffee from a country that may not be so famous for its specialty coffee.

3) Arctic Coffee, Norway.

Origin: Ethiopia
Variety: –
Farm: Gona Kore
Region: Guji
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 750 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Buttery and sweet with notes of tropic fruit and red apple.

Expectation: I have to say that it always brings me to smile when I see that there’s a Scandinavian coffee included in The Coffeevine box. From my own experience, Norway is good at picking up the finest of coffees, they are good at cupping and have been doing well for the specialty coffee a while now.

Conclusion: As usual, I look forward to drinking a coffee from a Scandinavian coffee roaster. The Norwegian coffee roasters Arctic Coffee puts me with high demands, I think it’s a very good and balanced coffee, a coffee for every day, but if it produces a dream cup or not yet to be seen.

I do not really know what to expect from The Underdog or Nero Scuro, but The Coffeevine has chosen them, because of that they are undoubted of high quality, it will be very interesting to see who comes out a winner out of these three.
